Get rid of the automatic pandas-generated boxplot title

August 22, 2013

When using the excellent pandas package (version 0.11), the automatic title of a boxplot can be removed the following way:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

# assuming df is a pandas DataFrame with the given columns
df.boxplot(by=["group_by_column_name"], column=["y_axis_value_column_name"])
# set your own proper title
plt.title("Boxplot of Something")
# get rid of the automatic 'Boxplot grouped by group_by_column_name' title
plt.suptitle("")

plt.show()
